Children and Adolescents

Our youth is experiencing pressure for academic performance as well as the pressures coupled with social media. Some students are trying to cope with bullying or may be experiencing big changes in environment or relationships. These are just a few examples of why anxiety, depression, and stress are on the rise in schools and colleges. 


There is significant scientific evidence showing that yoga and meditation can help improve symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety. The services provided through the Yoga4Youth program normalize self-awareness and give individuals a chance to relax. The Yoga4Youth includes physical yoga postures and mediation specifically designed for the participants age group. With regular practice, students can benefit from stress reduction, physical strength, and mental resilience to help them improve their well-being now and throughout their life. 



Teachers

Students aren’t the only one’s feeling the pressure. Recent surveys have showed that most teachers are feeling stressed and their mental health has an impact on the quality of lesson planning and creativity in classroom. 


Yoga and meditation improve symptoms of stress that lead to poor mental health. Yoga4Youth can help educators cultivate a mindfulness practice that will boost well-being, which may enhance the classroom experience and learning achievements of students.



Teens and Young Adults  

Our teens and young adult youth often feel like little fish in a big pond. Even though they are kept busy with school and activities, feelings of loneliness still arise. Students are moving to campuses away from home without direct contact with support networks, students staying local are removed from previous comfort zones, class schedules are busy, and workloads are stressful. 


Yoga4Youth classes provide a low-pressure opportunity for our youth to discover new connections with like-minded individuals interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.​



Alcohol and Drug Prevention​


“Alcohol and drug use prevention is something I’m extremely passionate about. Throughout high school and college I didn’t have the necessary tools to cope with stress and created toxic habits. I used alcohol to temporarily forget about the stress of academics and living up to expectations till I found yoga. I was hooked after my first class. I couldn’t believe there was something that could make me feel so good so fast and I wanted to learn everything I could about the practice. This is when I first heard the terms self-awareness and self-love. Through yoga and meditation I have learned to understand my feelings and emotions and how to appropriately care for myself during times of heightened stress.”​

Alcohol and drug use are highly prevalent in the US and many instances manifest in young adulthood. Young adults have been seen to manage stressful experiences and distress emotions with alcohol and drug use. ​The most recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health indicates that 18–25-year-old respondents reported the highest alcohol use rates, over 58%, as well as the highest rates of binge drinking of any age group. Additionally, college students reported the highest prevalence of illicit drug use, 41%. Alcohol and drug abuse are associated with a myriad of negative consequences, including injury, violence, sexual assault, and elevated depression.​


Literature on mind-body interventions suggest that meditation and yoga promote emotion regulation skills that help prevent alcohol and drug use. The Yoga4Youth program teaches youth mindfulness practices which promote self-awareness and self-care. Through yoga, youth learn to increase their capacity to control negative emotional responses without using drugs and alcohol. ​
